In the name of continuity, a collaboration that will continue in the 2021 BSB British Superbike season. Tommy Bridewell and the Oxford Racing Products MotoRapido Ducati Team will once again be together at the start of the UK’s domestic championship next year. Both come off the back of an unsatisfactory 2020 season with a single win to their credit, the two sides deciding by mutual agreement to continue together to go for a definitive assault on the title.

A partnership that has been going on since 2018

After finding himself sensationally without a ride in the first half of 2018, a few months later Tommy Bridewell settled down in the Oxford Racing MotoRapido Team. At the time with the “old” twin cylinder of the Borgo Panigale company, the Etchilhampton native immediately started off by scoring four great podiums at Oulton Park and Brands Hatch which allowed him to win the Rider’s Cup (the prize reserved for those riders not admitted to the Showdown). Whether it was because of the new Panigale V4 R, or for the extra year of experience with the environment, in 2019 Tommy Bridewell and the line-up led by Steve “Wilf” Moore proved to be the big surprise of British Superbike. This pairing, always in close contact with brand mates Scott Redding and Josh Brookes, fought for the title until the last few races, finishing in third position. In addition to the place of honour, for the then 31-year-old, there was also the satisfaction of returning to taste success at Oulton Park more than three years after the last time.

Despite the excellent performances, something went wrong in this crazy 2020 season. If the success in Race 3 in the opening round at Donington ‘National’ had given high hopes, as the races went by Tommy Bridewell and the MotoRapido Team moved further and further away from the top slots. Due to a difficult adaptation to the new Pirelli 200/65 big rear tyre, attempts were made to compensate for this deficiency in every way on a technical level, but without success.

All eyes on 2021

After the negative 2020 season with seventh place in the championship, it is time for Tommy Bridewell to think about the next year, with the knowledge that he has the trust of the entire team behind him.

“It was easy for me to decide to continue for another year with the MotoRapido Team – said the 32-year-old I strongly believe in this project, the V4-R is the best bike on the grid. During my career I have changed numerous teams,” but, since I joined this team, I feel like I am at home. In 2019 we have shown everyone our real potential, this year we did not go in line with expectations, however I believe in the team and I am convinced that we will achieve excellent results in 2021 “.

A few days after the reconfirmation of the sponsorship agreement with Oxford Products for another two seasons, Team Principal Steve “Wilf” Moore himself said he was very satisfied with the agreement found with his rider.

Team Owner Steve Moore commented: “Tommy signed for year three – well I must say I didn’t expect this in 2018 when we were both thrown together, but it has been a great fit from the start. He was my first choice for 2021 and Oxford Products, Ducati and all our sponsors and team are delighted. Securing Tommy for 2021 means that we have everything we need – everything we have learnt from the last two seasons with the V4R is so valuable when you can keep the same rider. I’m really looking forward to getting back on the podium in front of our fans.”
