After the 2020 season was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, with only the opening round disputed, the 2021 ARRC (Asia Road Racing Championship) calendar was disclosed to the public today. The promoter of the championship, TWMR, announced that they’ll be starting in June: six rounds with two races each until November.
Starting in Sepang, without Suzuka
For the third consecutive year, the stars of the Asia Road Racing Championship will start the show at the Sepang International Circuit the beginning of June (4th-6th). Compared to previous championships, Two Wheel Motor Racing has opted to postpone the opening of the season by a few weeks, in order to deal with any logistical problems related to the Coronavirus emergency.
Along with the two days of official pre-season tests scheduled for June 1st-2nd, they’ll remain in Malaysia for the second part of 2021 – the week following the first two races – and then stop at the Zhuhai International Circuit in China between July and August. At the end of September, after a short summer break, the ARCC will head to the Bend Motorsports Park in Australia. As usual, four rounds over a 14-day period will take place in November at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand. What hasn’t gone unnoticed is the fact that the legendary Suzuka rollercoaster track – a constant presence from 2014 to 2019 – isn’t on the list.
ASB1000, top class
Along with the new calendar, all four categories of the Asian championship have also been confirmed: the ASB1000 (Superbike) will remain the top class of the ARRC, while the SS600 (SuperSports 600cc), AP250 (Asia Production 250cc), and UB150 (Underbone 150cc) will be keeping it company.
