The final race of the 2020 MotoGP season is in the books, and so Steve English and David Emmett bring you another episode of the Paddock Pass Podcast to look back at the season finale at Portimão and wrap it all up.

Highlight of the weekend was obviously Miguel Oliveira’s win, leading from lights to flag. Steve and David ask whether it was down to local track knowledge or just getting everything right on the day. We talk about KTM’s progress, with Pol Espargaro having a strong race as well.

We move on to talk about Ducati’s up and down year, with Jack Miller on the podium the last two races in the row, but preseason title favorite Andrea Dovizioso struggled. We talk about the Michelin rear tire and the effect it had on Ducati’s 2020 season. We then talk about Franco Morbidelli, his riding, and how the 2019 Yamaha M1 compares to the 2020 bike, as Maverick Viñales, Fabio Quartararo, and Valentino Rossi struggled while Morbidelli triumphed.

We look at what happened to the Suzukis, fresh from wrapping up the title at Valencia, and how they ended up having such a disastrous weekend. We talk about Honda, about Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso retiring from the sport, we examine Aprilia’s recruiting disaster, and we take a look at Moto2 and Moto3.

We answer reader questions along the way, on the subject of whether Michelin will be allowed to bring the new front tire for 2021, how great riders leave the sport, who the next big British rider in MotoGP will be, and on the spat between Jorge Lorenzo and Cal Crutchlow about the Yamaha test rider role. And as always, we finish up the show with our winners and losers.
