For the last weekend with the Petronas team, which launched him last year in the MotoGP, Fabio Quartararo would like to do things big. Meanwhile, today, he closed a complicated qualifying session in 5th position, winning the BMW M Award, which rewards the best rider in qualifying of the season with a BMW M2 CS.
“This has been a season of ups and downs,” Fabio told us after the Q2. “But, at least, I can say I’ve won something. Anyway, the car is not for me, but it’ll be a Christmas present for my father. After each qualifying of the year, we talked about this car. It’ll be a nice surprise for him. I’ll ask him if he’ll lend it to me for a couple of days.”
Tomorrow afternoon, we’ll see the end of a very demanding season, which has also brought you some important disappointments. What are you going to do next week?
“I want to relax, take a break from journalists, and motors. I have to disconnect one hundred percent for a while and spend time with my family. During the winter, I’ll have to work a lot on myself, and I’ll do it with the help of a psychologist, whom I’m actually already talking to. I’ll go there more often to learn how to manage my emotions and all the stress of a race weekend.”
But there’s also the last race of the season before the winter break. As mentioned, the French rider will start from a 5th position and will try to compete for the podium against the KTMs and his teammate Morbidelli.
“Finishing in 5th position was good today, because it wasn’t an easy day. I believe that if I find something positive in the warm up, I’ll be able to fight for the top five. Oliveira and Espargarò have a difficult pace to follow, but I hope to succeed. Tomorrow will be a special race, and I hope to be consistent.”
Have you already chosen the tires for the race?
“Yes. I’ll use the hard. Actually, I’m quite good with all the compounds, but wear here is really very high. I’d like to have stability in the last laps.”
