In the round-up: Mattia Binotto has said Ferrari will make the decision on which of their junior drivers to promote to Formula 1 next year before the end of the Formula 2 season.
What they say
Of the five Ferrari Driver Academy members in Formula 2, Mick Schumacher is leading the championship and looks most likely to be picked to be on the grid for the 2021 F1 season. As Alfa Romeo has confirmed its two drivers for next year, Haas is expected to sign him, and Binotto indicated a decision will come soon:
I don’t think we will wait for the final race in Bahrain, and for Abu Dhabi then. I think it’s something that we may decide in within the next couple of weeks.

“It was good to see Christian (Lundgaard) and Guanyu (Zhou) manage to complete their respective programmes, which was geared more towards preparing them for their remaining Formula 2 rounds in Bahrain later in the month. For both drivers to be able to do more than 100 laps per day, shows a step forward and upwards progression from their last year F1 Test in the RS17. I am impressed with Oscar (Piastri’s) approach for his first day in the F1 car. He managed to get up to speed pretty quickly and complete his run plan.”
Russell’s Safety Car crash looked silly, but it’s easier to do than you might think – trust me (F1)
“Crashing out from behind the Safety Car is a cardinal sin in Formula 1, particularly if you are running in the top 10 and have never previously scored a point, but it’s actually far easier to do than anyone watching on could imagine, and that is why we do see it from time to time.”
